Transformation Through Education 12 Jun 2017

Joseph, 13, dreamed of becoming a pilot one day. However, he never really believed it was possible because of where he lives.

Joseph is from the slums of Mathare Valley. He is the eldest of three children. His single mother takes care of the family the best she can.

In first grade, Joseph dropped out of school. His mother was busy during the day trying to find jobs to support them, so Joseph wandered the streets alone. For such a young boy, the streets of Mathare present many dangers and negative influences.

One day our staff found Joseph on the streets. After counseling his mom and coming alongside the family, we enrolled Joseph in school. Joseph is now in 4th grade at our Pangani center. He is joyful, confident, and works well with his fellow students. We are confident that he will catch up in his studies and finish strong. Joseph is filled with hope for his future. His dreams have been rekindled by being in school.
